Changing China
Changing China: The Defining Years is the first major showing in Singapore of images by photojournalists Chua Chin Hon and How Hwee Young. This exhibition offered a ground-up perspective of China’s transformation over a collective 15 years from 2003 to 2018, as witnessed by the two Singaporean photographers. The exhibition design was inspired by the rise of China—easily one of the most contentious stories of our times, pervasive as it is in the consciousness and imaginations of the world at large. Thus, an impossible to ignore colossal structure that bears the exhibition title and abstract lies in the middle of the gallery floor.
The rise of China is one of the most contentious stories of our times. This show presents a snippet into China’s transformation through the eyes of two photojournalists.
Museums and exhibitions are a special type of space in which, in addition to the human-space relationship, a complex relationship between space and object is also evident.
