Packaging Design
1959
A project for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth to mark the 60th anniversary of Singapore’s National Symbols. The symbols—once out of bound and sacred—were deftly reimagined by artists into coveted limited edition products. We were commissioned by Ogilvy Singapore to think up practical ways in which these products could be packaged and shipped. The packaging design addressed two specific challenges beyond communications and aesthetics. It also had to serve the practical function of making a range of products shippable, and it had to be produced in very limited quantities.
The products were released in such limited quantities that it posed tricky production problems. We were fortunate to have kept a ready list of small local workshops that could be called upon for projects like these. Boxes were sourced by us to the nearest size and each was then screen printed manually.
